Sikhote-Alin Meteor Glass Dome
This Sikhote-Alin Meteorite (4.53 billion years) has been mounted on a bespoke wooden base inside an elegant glass bell cloche using museum grade 99% UV blocking conservation glass to preserve our specimens.
This fragment is from an iron meteorite that fell on the Sikhote-Alin Mountains, in southeastern Russia, in 1947. Large iron meteorite impacts have been witnessed and fragments recovered but never before, in recorded history, a fall of this magnitude. An estimated 23 tonnes of rock fragments survived the fiery passage through the atmosphere and reached the Earth.
This piece has been handcrafted locally in Cheshire and is designed to showcase the entire meteorite, allowing you to pick it up and study every angle.
